She married Ernst Graul and they became the parents of 9 children.
At the age of 57, Johanna emigrated to America with her daughters and youngest son, aboard the ship Marsala, departing from Hamburg, Germany on Dec. 11, 1890 and arriving in New York on Jan. 3, 1891.[1][2]
