9th great grandfather of HRH Prince William of Wales. Created Baron Belasyse of Worlaby, 1644/1645.

Graduated Cambridge University. [1] Of Worlaby, Lincolnshire, England. Member of Parliament for Thirsk, 1640-1642.A Catholic, having raised 6 regiments at his own charge, he became one of the most distinguished commanders on the Royalist side; Lieutenant-General of the King's forces in the counties of York, Nottingham, etc.; General of the King's Horse Guards; General of the Royal Forces in Africa; Captain of the Gentlemen Pensioners; Colonel of a Regiment of Foot, 1673.

Governor of York and Newark; Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding, 1660-1673; Governor of Hull, 1661-1673; of Tangiers, 1664-1666; Privy Councillor, 1686-1688/1689; Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, 1687-1688. Will dated 22 Apr 1689; will proved 7 May 1690, and 6 Dec 1690.

He married (1) Jane Boteler (b 1620 Aston, Hertford d bef 12/12/1657) and had two children : Mary and Henry (1639-1667).

He married (2) Ann Crane (b 1630 Chilton, Suffolk d 11 Aug 1662) but had no children.

He married (3) Ann Paulet (bur 11/9/1694) and had three children Honora (d 1706), Barbara (d 1740) and Isabella.
