Knighted 1603, created Baronet 1627 and Viscount Fauconberg of Henknowle, 1642/1643. Member of Parliament for Thirsk, 1597-1598, 1614, 1620-1622, 1624-1625. A Catholic, after the battle of Marston Moor in 1644 fled to Hamburg. Will dated 4 Sep 1649; will proved 12 Jul 1653

He married Barbara Cholmeley c. 1600, 1st dau. of Sir Henry Cholmeley, of Whitby, co. York, by his wife Margaret Babthorpe, dau. of Sir William Babthorpe, of Babthorpe, co. York and had 11 children:
