Biography

Anderson's Great Migration Directory on page 25 gives several references for Joseph's father Gregory Belcher-57 and his wife Catherine. One of the references, NEHGR, Vol 60 (1906), pages 128-129, and pages 131-132, shows that Joseph was born 25 December 1641 and died about 1678. He married Rebecca Gill. There's quite a bit of information about Joseph in the article. You may want to track it down. I found it on AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society's website.

Braintree Vital Records have birth of Joseph BELSHAR, son of Gregory Belshar on 25-10-1641 (i.e., 25 December 1641). Source is Braintree, MA: Vital and Church Records, 1638-1850. (Online database. AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2016.) Transcription. By Waldo C. Sprague from the original records held at the Randolph Town Hall, donated from the estate of Mr. Sprague to NEHGS in 1962.

A Joseph Belchar was excommunicated from the church in Quincy (which was part of Braintree) in 1677: "Joseph Belchar though not in full communion, 7-8-___; Rejected, 11-9-1677" -- from Quincy, MA: Vital and Church Records, 1672-1870. . (Online database: AmericanAncestors.org., New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2016), (Unpublished transcription by Waldo C. Sprague from original records held at the Randolph Town Hall, donated from the estate of Mr. Sprague to NEHGS in 1962). (I'd interpret the date as 11 November 1677.)

According to the same Quincy church source, in 1674, 20-7, John & Joseph, sons of Joseph Belcher, were baptized in that same church. (I'd interpret that date as 20 September 1674.)

There are also some Quincy church records for a Joseph Belchar in 1693.

In order to merge Belcher-2417 and Belcher-753 properly, we need to find the baptism record of Joseph Belcher to determine his correct birth date. It apparently doesn't appear in the Braintree baptism book in 1641, but I can't prove it. Does anyone else have access to the Braintree baptism records of that time period?

Belcher-2417 and Belcher-753 appear to represent the same person because: Both profiles husband of Rebecca Gill. Same birth year, same father Gregory (George). As stated in my trusted list request.
