William Thomas Belcher was born in 1867 in Whitwick, Leicestershire, England. He was the son of George Belcher and Catherine (Poyser).

In 1871 he was registered on the census twice, once with his parents and once with his maternal grandma, Mary Poyser.

In 1891, William T Belcher (24) and his wife, Susannah (23, born in Nottinghamshire, nee Whittaker) were living in Leicester Road, Whitwick, Leicestershire, England with one child, George Harry Belcher (1) and Susannah's sister, Mary A Whittaker (27).

William Belcher died age 31 years on 19th April 1898 in the Whitwick Colliery No. 5 Pit fire, which killed 35 men and boys. His body was recovered on 22nd April and he was buried on 24 Apr 1898 in Whitwick, Leicestershire, England.
