Biography

Margery was baptized 9 Jul 1615 at St. Peter and St. Paul's church in Aston Juxta Birmingham, Warwickshire to Thomas Belcher (her mother was not listed).^[1]

She married William Phillips at the same location 31 Aug 1637^[2] and their son William was baptized in the same church on 4 Jul 1641^[3]

They had at least 2 other children baptized in the same location where the mother's name was noted:

1. Margery bap 7 Jan 1643^[4]
2. Elizabeth bap 5 Apr 1646^[5]

Other baptisms with a father William Phillips are recorded in the area but those with mothers Alice and Mary occurred in 1644 and 1642 in the midst of the known children of William & Margery so it seems there were at least 2 and possibly 3 William Phillips having children baptized at Aston Juxta Birmingham in the 1630s and 1640s.

Margery Belcher's older brother John married an Elizabeth Phillips in the same church on 24 Aug 1629^[6] so it is easy to imagine that the Phillips were also brother and sister but no research on that topic has been done yet.

No burial or probate record for Margery Belcher has been found yet, her brother Gregory emigrated to Massachusetts but it is not known yet whether Margery and her family did as well. A "Margaret Phillips of Yardley" was buried 13 Feb 1691 at St. Peter and St. Paul but given the number of Phillips in the area there is no reason to suppose it was this Margery.
