Mary Belknap was born January 9, 1740, a daughter of Samuel and Lydia Belnap. On August 6, 1742, in Newburgh, New York, Mary married James Stickney, born August 6, 1742, in Tewsbury, Massachusetts. Mary's husband was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, and several of their children became members of the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Jonathan Stickney, born May 15, 1774, died unmarried
William Stickney, born February 23, 1776, died unmarried
Eliphalet Stickney, born August 20, 1778, married Phebe Howell
Marcus Stickney, born July 14, 1782, married Elizabeth Buckley
