Preliminary Statement

There is no direct evidence that Robert is the son of Nathaniel.

Nathaniel's households in the 1830 census showing a white male 5 to 9 years old and the 1840 census showing a white male 15 to 19 years old supports Robert's 1825 birth.

Robert's dates of birth, death and middle name all are from an ancestral file/tree on familysearch.org. No further documentary evidence for this information has been found. His middle name is his mother's maiden name.

Nathaniel's will in 1848 fails to mention any son. But at that time, Robert would have been out of household and married and likely living in Jefferson Co, TN which is over 200 miles from Williamson Co, Tn where his father died.

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ has a Robert Jefferson Bell with Edmond Bell and Elizabeth Walker Bell as his parents. Also his wife is listed as Adaline Grant.

The above reference points to the Robert Bell identified here as probably not the son of Nathanial. The birth and death dates for Robert Jefferson Bell do not match the dates found on the familysearch.org site.

With the uncertainty of Robert's parentage, the information on his descendants has not been added to individual profiles.

He shows up the 1830 census as 1 male 5-9 and in the 1840 census as 1 male 15-19

In the 1850 census he was living in Jefferson Co, TN with his wife aged 19 and sons John E age 2 and Thomas J age 1^[1]

He had a daughter named Thomsey b 11/29/1852 Tn, d 7/12/1916 Polk Co, OR ( she married John H Jollay 7/25/1876 in Hamblen Co, TN

In the 1860 census - R J living in Jefferson Co, TN with Adaline 29, male JE 12, male MC 9, female T 6, , male J A 5, female EE 4, female MJ 2 and male SW 1/2^[2]

In the 1870 census Adaline Belle age 39 living in Jefferson Co, TN with sons John E 22, Uriah C 19, Thompsey 17, James A 16, Ellen 14, Martha J 12, Samuel W 10, Robert W 8 and Pleasant Belle 5 (perhaps Provident Bell)

James A b 1854 in TN married Sarah C Bacon 7/6/1873 in Hamblen, TN

Ellen Emert Bell b 1856 in TN died in Comanche Co, TX - she first married John Pierce in TN and then Rev Wm S Clark 12/29/1901

Martha J b 1858 in TN married Charles Bacon on 8/4/1875 in Hamblen Co, TN

A John H Bell is in the 1900 census in Yamhill Co OR - born in TN in Oct 1847 living with wife Hettie L b 7/1848 in NC and children Curtis B 23, Addie B 26, Nick 18, Bennie 12 all born in TN

Adaline Bell - died in 1920 - born in 1831 - she is buried in Harmony Cemetery, Polk Co, OR - her son Pleasant H Bell is buried in the same cemetery b 1865 d 1933 as is his wife Margaret b 1879 d 1950, and his daughters Neppie Lou b 3/27/1898 d 3/27/1987 and Goldie E b 4/19/1906 d 11/28/1971. see her site on findagrave.

A John E Bell b 1847 d 1928 is buried in WIllamina Cemetery, Polk Co, OR - this would be Robert's son and supports Thomsey Bell in Polk Co, OR in 1916

The following information does not appear to relate to Robert's son Thomas

In 1870 census - a Thomas Bell was living in Canton beat, Smith Co, TX with wife Fannie b 1852 GA and son James born in 1870. Another son T B Bell born 1878 died 4/3/1893 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Tyler, Smith Co, TX

His son T J Bell's bio is on findgrave.com - it does not however link him to Robert, his father. In another biographical sketch of T J Bell, at http://files.usgwarchives.net/tx/smith/bios/biotx/belltj.txt The Dr T J's parents are identified as Thomas W and Susannah Bullen Bell who were from Tennessee - so further information on the Thomas J Bell shown in the 1850 census as son of Robert is still to be uncovered - He likely died between 1850 and 1860 since he doesn't appear in the 1860 census with his family.
