Mary Ann Bell was born on the 21 April 1857 in the Town of McLaren Vale, about 33 kilometres (21 mi) south of the Capital City of Adelaide, District of Wilunga, Colony of South Australia, Australia[1]. She was the daughter of William Bell and Isabella Patterson.
At the age of 19, Mary Ann married Thomas Daniel Paynter (21) on the 22 January 1877, at the home of her father, William (Bell), in McLaren Vale, District of Wilunga, Colony of South Australia, Australia[2]. During their marriage, Mary Ann and Daniel had (at least) ten children, all born in the Colony of Victoria, Australia.
"Marian" passed away on the 4 May 1942 at her home in the Locality of Beela, east of the Town of Brunswick Junction, 26 km (16 mi) from the coastal Town of Bunbury, in the Wellington District of Western Australia, Australia[3]. Her burial took place in the Methodist portion, Section A, site number 118 of the Bunbury General Cemetery, Hales Street, Carey Park, in the Town of Bunbury, Western Australia, Australia[4]. The inscription on the headstone reads:--Sacred To The Memory of THOMAS D. PAYNTER Died At Brunswick 28-May-1929, Aged 74 Years. "Gone But Not Forgotten". Suddenly, Just In A Moment, The Lord Of Life Did Come; And Lifted Him Out Of The Cloudland Into The Light of Home. ALSO, MARIAN Beloved Wife Of The Above Passed Away 4-May-1942, Aged 85 Years.
