Research Notes

Source for this information is Robert Reger - It is interesting how this individual's existence was discovered. In July 2004, Michelle Sommer gave Robert Reger a copy of the extended Finkelstein family that she had worked on up to that point. It had shown Mae Bell, (Rob's mother), the third child born to Joe and Ida (Finkelstein) Bell. Learning of Pauline Bell's existence piqued Rob's interest since his mother never spoke of any children besides herself and Pearl. Rob later found a copy of Mae's birth certificate which clearly shows Mae (spelled May) as the FOURTH child, (second living) born to Joe Bell (born in Witebsk, Russia) and Ida Finkelstein Bell (born in Vilna, Russia), residing in New Haven, CT, USA

At the time of sister Mae's birth, her parents and sister Pearl resided at 134 Orchard Street, New Haven, CT, USA . Mae was the fourth child born, and second still living.

  • 1910 census only shows 1 child, Pauline, born Jan 1909. It also shows that Ida only had 1 child that was living. [1]
Joe Bell Head Male 27 Russia, immigrated 1905, married abt 3 years, abt 1907
Ida Bell Wife Female 25 Russia
Paulin Bell Daughter Female 1 Connecticut
Anna Fincklestein Sister-in-law Female 24 Russia
  • 1920 Census doesn't show how many children for mother. But doesn't list this child

Bell-17603 and Bell-17601 appear to represent the same person because: There was only one unknown child in this family since other 3 daughters names have been determined. Since Pauline born in 1909, Pearl in 1910, this child was probably born and died in 1911 - 1912 since Mae was born 1913 and death notice states she was youngest of 4 children, 2 of which were dead (Pauline and 'unknown').
