Biography

According to her Find A Grave profile, Celestine was born 12 December 1874[1], however, it is unclear where this date comes from as there is no gravestone image. At the time of the June 1880 US Census, she is listed as 4-years old and is living with her father, Charles Bell and mother, Zoia Fruge.[2] Her reported age at death indicates she was born in about 1872.[3]

According to the 1910 US Census (where she is called "Sallie"), she married David Pitre sixteen years earlier than the April 1910 date of the census.[4] Given that their first child together, Alzora Marie, was born in October 1894[5], the likely married in 1893 or early 1894.

Celestine and David had seven children together, with all seven at home with them in 1910.[4] The children and their ages in April 1910 are as follows:

  1. Izora - 15 years
  2. Charley - 14 years
  3. Elizabeth - 11 years
  4. [Pitre-1369|Ida]] - 10 years
  5. Frank - 8 years
  6. Earnest - 5 years
  7. Clara or Elora - 2 years

Celestine died 15 August 1941 in Calcasieu Parish[3] and is buried at Green Oak Cemetery in Kinder, Louisiana.[1]
