Biography

David Bell is a part of US Black heritage.

David Vinton Bell was born on 18 September 1902 in Monroe County, Alabama. He was the son of Charles Bell and Cora McCants.

In the 1910 US Census, seven year-old David was the son of Charles H Bell in Buena Vista, Alabama.[1]

In the 1920 US Census, seventeen year-old David was still living with his family in Buena Vista.[2]

In the 1930 US Census David was living in Buena vista with his wife, Gladys Latimore Bell and their two children.[3]

In the 1940 US Census David (age 37), Michainer, was the married head of household in Buena Vista, Monroe, Alabama.[4]

David registered for the draft on 16 February 1942 in Vredenburgh, Monroe County, Alabama. He was living in Vredenburgh and working for the Vredenburgh Sawmill Company.[5] David and Gladys were in a directory in 1949 at 1253 Congress in Mobile, Alabama. David worked for ADDSCO (Alabama Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Company), one of the largest marine production facilities in the United States.[6]

In the 1950 US Census Dave (age 47), Electrician, was the married head of household in Mobile, Mobile, Alabama, United States.[7]

David died at the age of 74 on 11 December 1976 in a hospital in Mobile, Alabama. He had been living in Mobile.[8] He was survived by three sons, two daughters, a foster daughter, and his stepmother Mrs. Beulah Mims, Pensacola, Florida, as well as siblings, grandchildren, and other relatives. Funeral services were on 17 December 1976 at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. S. M. McCree. He was buried in Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery, Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama, United States.[9]

David Bell was the paternal grandfather of TV host and comic W. Kamau Bell[10]
