Biography

Illegitimate son of Elmer Johnson Forsythe and Laura Maude Bell.

Elmer was named as the father of the child of Maude Bell. Before the child was born, Elmer was sent away to Brownsville, Oregon, to live with his uncle, Rev. Robert Robe.

In the 1870 Census an infant daughter of Abraham Bell is apparently Laura Maude.

1870 Census, Liberty Township, Guernsey Co., Ohio Abraham Bell age 25; Harriet, age 7, is eldest daughter, followed by Amanda, age 4, Nora, age 3, and infant, age 1 month.

Between the 1870 and 1880 Censuses none of the daughters married or left the family, but a grandchild was added:

Elmer is not with his mother in the 1900 Census. [2]

A daughter (Margaret Forsythe) of Emmett Forsythe (Emmett was b. 1896 in Guernsey County) says that a relative pointed out to Emmett (this must have been circa 1915 when Emmett's family lived in Kimbolton, Ohio) the boy that was the son of Elmer Forsythe and Maude Bell. This information communicated by Warren Ellsworth "Tuck" Forsythe.

Craig Forsythe wrote around 1960 a 16-page recollection of memories from around 1895 that mentioned the birth of this child. This recollection or a copy is apparently in possession of "Tuck" Forsythe.

There is an Elmer Bell b ca 1881 in Ohio living in Mercer County, PA, but this is not the same person; he is the son of Conrad Bell and Melissa Bucy.
