John R Bell (abt. 1845 - 1898)

Died 15 Feb 1898 at about age 53 in Havana Harbor, Cuba

Biography

John was in the US Navy serving as a steward aboard the USS Maine when the ship was sent to Havana in 1898 to protect American interests there. The ship exploded in the Harbor of Havana, Cuba during what became known as the USS Maine Disaster. John was killed during the explosion and his body was never recovered.
