Biography

John was in the US Navy serving as a steward aboard the USS Maine when the ship was sent to Havana in 1898 to protect American interests there. The ship exploded in the Harbor of Havana, Cuba during what became known as the USS Maine Disaster. John was killed during the explosion and his body was never recovered.

His Find A Grave Memorial has a write up for him writtten by Patrick McSherry, Spanish American War Historian.[1]
