David was born in 1698.
David died in 1744. In his will he names his wife Mary, and his sons David, George, John, and James and daughters Ann and Elizabeth, and brother George, as well as property in New Kent and Hanover County.
In 1704 St. Paul's Parish, New Kent County was created from the St Peter’s Parish New Kent County area. On November 26, 1719, (commonly recognized as 1720.) The St. Paul's Parish area was included when Hanover County was created from that area of New Kent County.
By David’s death in 1744 the family retained the original lands and plantation in New Kent Co. and owned land and rent grants in Henrico County and Goochland County (founded in 1728.) The Bell’s were also successful merchants in Richmond.
1744-Will Summery for DAVID BELL, Goochland Co. Virginia In the name of the God. Amen. I David Bell of the County of Goochland being very sick and weak, but in perfect sense and memory do dispose of what worldly assets it hath pleased God to indue me with………………. Give and Bequeath: To son James 400 acres in Goochland Co. I now live on, numerous items, livestock, food stock, (many of these in Hanover Co.) and one Bible left to David by HIS FATHER BELL, which was in New Kent Co. (Father was David Bell Sr.)
To wife Mary, numerous items, livestock, foods stocks, tools etc (some in Hanover Co). All the salt at Will Vaughon's, except 3 packs to JOHN BOSTICK. (Wife Mary’s Father) Wife Mary to pay sons David, George and John when they come of age. She is to have a negro named Will for life, then to son James.
To daughters Ann and Elizabeth numerous items, including furniture, and if James dies without issue, Ann and Elizabeth to have 100 acres each.
To sons David and George 330 acres in his new survey beginning at lower end of the old one. To each of them numerous items including livestock.
To son John 140 acres in New Kent County, numerous items and to have benefit of the plantation at death of MY SISTER. (Known only as a Daughter Bell) This was the original Bell family plantation in New Kent Co.
To lad John Smith, 1 bridle heifer and her issue and a coat.
To wife and children, my part of my father's estate to be divided equally among them.
Executors: my BROTHER George Bell and my wife Mary and son James. Dated 26 April 1744. Wit: Charles Bostick, John Francis, Eliz Bassett. Signed: David (D) Bell. (The D was David’s name mark, not an initial) Recorded 15 Jan. 1744. This will was proved by the oaths of Charles Bostick and John Francis and ordered to be recorded.
