Research Notes

Lucretia was previously thought to be the daughter of Richard Dixson Bell (abt.1745-abt.1805) and Dorcas Bell (abt.1747-aft.1805) but research and DNA has proved otherwise.
Note: Their daughter Lucretia (Bell) Gaylard (1779-1839) married abt 1796 John Gaylord 1767-1809.

There are some questions about Lucretia and who she really is.

I have a copy of a 1856 letter to her "SISTER" and they are both named as children in the 1835 will of my GGG gf Jeremiah Bentley. Puts "Bell" as a question. The '50 Wayne census states she is "born c1810 in TN" - Not NC

In the 1860 census living with William and Lucretia Luker is a "Wm Ball", Male, 73, White, 1787, North Carolina

She is listed as Lucretia Luker, Female, 55, White, 1805, North Carolina (Note: this 1860 census has William born in Georgia. 1850 had both William and Lucretia born in Tennessee – ughh.)

I don't know who that Wm Ball from NC was but I did find a Lucretia that I believe has been mixed up with ours!

Richard Dixson Bell (abt.1745-abt.1805) and Dorcas Bell (abt.1747-aft.1805) daughter is Lucretia (Bell) Gaylard (1779-1839) who married abt 1796 John Gaylard 1767-1809, son of Jeremiah Gaylord. 9 children

Cousin Patty,

There are some genealogists who have Lucy's maiden last name as "Bell" which we know is incorrect. My information is that Jeremiah did not come from SC until 1807 or so. Being we have his 1818 wife (probably Nancy") bc1761, Lucretia's DOB is probably 1805 at the latest and POB Union Co SC Regards, gb
