I spent my first seven years living at Tennyson, on the coast of the Adelaide plains. My parents built their own home at weekends. Dad came from a family of masons and building contractors, which meant he had experience and knowledge in this area. I began Primary School in 1948, the year that my beloved Grandmother died. At 5 years old I had to catch a bus to Grange with several older children, and follow them to reach the Grange Primary School, at the east end of Jetty Street. The school is still there, but has new buildings where the oval and sandhills were situated. Captain Sturt's Cottage is situated near the school, on the banks of the Port River outlet, which runs to West Beach. (I think)
