Ian Malcolm Bell-Irving was born in Vancouver on January 13, 1920. He went to Shawnigan Lake School for Boys. He served with the Seaforth Highlanders during the Second World War.
On October 25, 1947, in Vancouver, he married Joan Virginia Frost. She was born in Vancouver on March 21, 1923. Her parents were Anson Carr Frost and Lila Maud Coburn.
Ian became the commander of the Seaforth Highlanders in 1957. In 1962, he became the president of H.Bell-Irving Company.[1]
