The Sydney Morning Herald, Monday 27th July 1908. [5] On Friday afternoon Mr. Zadok Bellamy well known orchardist of the Pennant Hills district, died suddenly in his orchard from heart failure.

Obituary

The Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers Advocate (Parramatta, NSW : 1888 - 1950), Wednesday 29 July 1908. [6] DEATH OF MR. Z. BELLAMY. The district was shocked on Saturday morning with the news of the death of one of the best known men of the Hills country. Mr. Zadok Bellamy, of Pennant Hills. It was a terrible blow for his widow and family. His youngest son could only have left him for a few minutes when the end came so suddenly. He had been assisting his father in the orchard ploughing, and after the day's work the boy took the horses up to the stables, while the father stepped aside to cut some grass for the stock. As he did not come in at the usual time to tea, Mrs. Bellamy commenced to make enquiries. The son said his father was home long ago - he thought he must have been, because the cutting of the grass was only a matter of a few minutes work. He could not be found about the house, though, and then, looking down the paddock, a form could be discerned on the ground where Mr. Bellamy was known to have gone for the grass. With the aid of field glasses, Mrs. Bellamy confirmed the suspicion that the form was that of her husband, and she had an intuitive feeling of what had happened. The family hurried down to the spot, to find the worst fears verified. Mr. Bellamy was lying on his side, with his hat still on his head. In one hand was the reaping hook, and in the other a tuft of grass. His pipe, which he had prepared to smoke as his son was leaving him, appeared to have only just been lit, and then gone out. Evidently he had answered the summons of the Grim Reaper shortly after he commenced to cut the grass. It was thought he must have been dead an hour when the body was found. The police were informed, and Dr. Lidwill called in. His report to the Parramatta Coroner was that death was due to heart failure, and an enquiry was dispensed with. The funeral on Sunday was very largely attended. Mr. Bellamy leaves a widow and grown-up family, the youngest of whom is 16 years of age.
