Régis was born around 1780, the son of Paul Godin dit Bellefontaine and Rosalie Comeau.

He married Scholastique Bourgeois around 1800. They had the following children:

Since we don't have any records that show Regis's age, his year of birth is estimated based on his wife's approximate year of birth. His parents were married in 1770.

Regis was the son of Paul Bellefontaine and Rosalie Comeau according to Stephen White^[4]. In the marriage record for Luc Bellefontaine, it says that Luc was the son of Paul Bellefontaine and Rose Comeau, and one of the witnesses was "Regis Bellefontaine, frère" (brother)^[5].

In the marriage record for Regis's son Pierre Bellefontaine and Suzanne Vautour, they were granted a dispensation for for a fourth degree of consanginuity^[6]. In other words, they should share great-great grandparents. This provides evidence that Regis is the son of Rosalie Comeau the daughter of Jean Comeau, since Pierre and his wife Suzanne appear to be second cousins once removed through Jean Comeau.
