Zuriah was born about 1830. Some census lists his birthplace as Germany. He passed away about 1908.
Via Fern Boyer commentary : Zuriah served during Civil War in Battery B 5thPA, which regiment served in East Virginia enlisting 8-27-1864. He also went out in the state call in 1863 and in the state service 3 months serving in West Virginia doing gaurd duty most of the time. During his service, he participated in engagements at Salem, Rectortown, Piedmont, Capture of Moseby's battery at Cobbler Mt. and was in several fights with that command. Besides doing gaurd duty along railroads, he also served in W Virginia between New Creek and Burlington along the B&O Railroad from 11-18-1864 to 6-1865. Following, he was detailed as a company clerk and was serving in that capacity at the time of his discharge at Vienna, VA in june 1865. (He later recieved disability payment)
He belonged to the E.M. Stanton Post #208 G.A.R New Brighton, PA. He was farmer, carpenter and good violinist in N Sewickley Twp. Beaver County PA. (See Beaver Cio Atlas 1876 for l;ocation of home)
He was killed 9-30-1908 when a tree he was cutting fell on him (clipping from newspaper) His first wife had 12 children.
Both Zuriah and Mary and second wife Jerusha are buried at Grove Cemetary.
Zuriah in 1904 married Jerusha Baker Freed (1860-1917) buried at Grandview Cemetary, Beaver Falls PA. They had 1 child Dora in 1905. Dora lived in Rochester PA Dora married Vincent Whitten had one son Robert and 4 grandsons James 1955, William 1957, David 1959 and Robert 1965
Son Louis (Lewis) Belles death certificate states his father as Zura Belles from Germany Although other Belles are listed in Beaver County before his arrival.
