He married twice: (1) Hannah (ca. 1654-1692) and (2) Dorothy Porter in 1695. Sometime after 1695 Jacob and his family migrated to North Carolina. Reputed Overman researcher, Joyce Overman Bowman states that no evidence supports Jacob Overman being German, and he was more likely born in England, where the family name has existed since at least 1500.
