Biography

Pvt. Samuel Bender served in the United States Civil War.

Samuel was born in about 1841 in Pennsylvania.[1]

He enlisted in Company "G" of the 33rd Regiment, Illinois Infantry in Springfield on 26 February 1864, and was mustered out at Vicksburg, Mississippi on 24 Nov 1865 and returned to Illinois.[2]

He was described as 5' 9 ½", with light hair and blue eyes. Prior to entering the service, he worked as a shoemaker.[3]

Marriage

He married Ellen C Little on 21 Dec 1865 in Mclean County, Illinois.[4]

Samuel began drawing invalid's pension 19 Dec 1867.[5] And he was working as a barber in Chenoa, McLean County, in 1878.[6]

He died 7 June 1879 in Bloomington, McLean, Illinois,[1] and was interred in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.[7]
