Sharpsburg --- SAMUEL HOWELL BENDER, 85, of South Hall St., died Friday morning at VA Center in Martinsburg, W.Va. Born in Sharpsburg, he was a son of Jacob and Barbara Johnson Bender. He was employed at Victor Products. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Army, and a member of Antietam Post No. 236, American Legion; and Last Man's Club of the Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alverta Hutson Bender; a stepson, William E. Eichelberger of State Line, Md.; a brother, Garrett Bender of Hagerstown; and six step-children.
Services were held at the Osborne Funeral Home, Sharpsburg; burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
