Biography

Elias Benedict was born about 1838^[1][2][3][4] in Kingston, Upper Canada^[5] to [[Benedict-2164 | Smedley William Benedict and Catherine (Dafoe) Benedict^[1].

Elias married Margery McMullin on 26 Jul 1863 in Owen Sound, Grey County, Ontario^[5]. The couple had at least six children^[3][4].

The date and place of death of Elias is unknown.

Research Notes

1. The marriage record^[5] is misindexed.  It says that wife Margery was born in "Lydenhan" but an examination of the scan of the original record show that the handwriting has been incorrectly interpretted and the place of birth is written "Sydenham".  Compare the first letter to the S in Smedly on the same line.  Sydenham is a township 11 km. due East of Owen Sound.  Also the handwriting is not clear regarding the first name of the bride, could be "Margery", "Margary" or "Margory".
