""BENNER - Edward
1918-2004
Edward Benner, beloved husband of Helen of Calgary, passed away quietly and with dignity with his family at this side at the Foothills Medical Centre on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at the age of 86 years. Ed was born, educated and worked in Calgary all his life - with a career at the C.P.R. which spanned thirty-eight years. Edward was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched. He had great strength of character and knowing him was a gift that we will keep in our hearts forever. At the young age of eight-six, Ed was an active volunteer at the Seniors of Confederation Park. He walked every day and was an avid bowler and curler. Ed was proud of his association with the Bridgeland Credit Union as a director for thirty-thirty five years. He loved his family more than anyone could ever know, as they did him. Edward is survived by his wife and soulmate of sixty-two years, Helen; children, Shirley (Jim), Bruce (Dawn) and Shelley (Dave); grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer (Kevan), Jocelynn, Jeff, Michelle, MacKenzie, Kennedy, Jodi (Chris) and Jill; and by his sister Frieda (Rob) and aunt Julie Benner. He was predeceased by his brother Elmer Benner. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service will be held at Calgary Crematorium on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association.... or directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.... Special thanks to Dr. Scot Dowden, Dr. Ken MacLean and the nursing staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their gently care and support.
