Edwin Henry Bennett was born Iwerne Courtney (also known as Shroton, in the civil district of Blandford), Dorset, 12 April 1840. [1][2]
He was baptised Iwerne Courtney 07 June 1840. [3][4][5]
His mother was Elizabeth Bennett, who was unmarried at the time, hence Edwin took her last name. [3]
His father is not listed on his baptism, though is stated as labourer Edward Bennett on Edwin's Abbas Combe parish marriage record, which perhaps refers to Edwin's uncle Edward Bennett. However, his biological father has been shown to be John Huckvale, based on multiple DNA matches between Edwin and John's descendants.
Aged 1 in 1841 he resided Iwerne Courtney with his mother in the home of his grandfather Charles Bennett. [6]
Aged 10 in 1851 he resided Iwerne Courtney with his mother and stepfather James Bellenger. [7]
Edwin married Caroline Greenstock, in the civil district of Wincanton, parish of Abbas Combe (also known as Templecombe), Somerset, 06 July 1862. [8][9][10]
Aged 40 in 1881 he was a "post boy C S M" residing Sturminter, Dorset, with his wife and five children. [11][12]
Edwin died aged 46, Shaftesbury 24 July 1886. [13][2]
He was buried Saint James Churchyard, Shaftesbury. [2]
Research Notes
What does the "CSM" acronym of his mailman profession signify? I have seen other boys aged 15 on the 1881 census with the same occupation. Other researchers have asked the same question. [14]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edwin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edwin:
