Caleb Prew Bennett was born a Quaker on November 11, 1758 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, son of Joseph Bennett and Elizabeth Prew Willey. They moved to Wilmington, Delaware when he was 3 and he lived there until his death. He married Catherine Britton in 1792; they had thirteen children. [1]
He was named in the 1802 New Castle, Delaware Will of Richard Britton, his father-in-law. [2]
After a career including in the Delaware military during the Revolution, [3] he was elected Governor of Delaware in 1832.
He died in office on May 9, 1836 in Wilmington, Delaware and was buried in the Friends Meeting House Burial Ground in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, USA. [4]
