Richard Bennett was born about 1846 in Missouri, United States, son of James Henry Bennett (~1821–1849) and Mary Hines (1813–1893). He relocated to Patrick, Virginia with mother after father's death; they lived with their grandparents, Henry and Lucinda Hines.
Richard joined the 50th Regiment, Missouri Infantry (Union)[3][4]
He was killed about 1864 in the Civil War fighting for the Union. His brother Charles fought for the Confederacy and was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg.
