Biography

Frances was born about 1818.

William Pearce, 32, sawyer married Frances Ann Bennett, 25, house servant, on 8 Nov 1843 in the Church of St Joseph, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. Witnesses were George Smith and Bridget Galvin.

London prostitute from the age of 16. Transported as a convict to Tasmania for 7 years for child stealing. Trial date 23/10/1837 (Old Bailey). Left Woolwich 29/4/1838, arrived Hobart 29/8/1838 on the Nautilus. Worked for various VDL citizens in servitude including official offices such as police stations (Launceston, Morven, Norfolk Plains). Did not stay with private citizens for long periods due to larceny, drunkenness, gross misconduct, absconding and insolence. Married William Pearce in Launceston 8/11/1843.[1] Certificate of Freedom 23/10/1845.[2] Moved to Adelaide from Launceston on the Henry - arrived 21/11/1845. Died of dementia in 1874 whilst in an insane asylum in Adelaide.

Frances Ann Bennett was convicted by the judge in the Old Bailey of child stealing in October 1837 and sentenced to transport for 7 years, She was transported to Tasmania on the Nautilus and arrived in Tasmania on 27/29 October 1838.
