Biography

Francis was born about 1802.

In the 1830 Census, Frances Bennett is living in Tuscaloosa. [1] 1830

  • 1 boy under age 5
  • 1 boy age 15-20
  • 1 man age 20-30
  • 3 girls under age 5
  • 1 girl age 5-10
  • 1 woman age 20-30

(A Patience, Solomon, and D. Bennett are also listed as living there. Are they all four related? See Bennett Family of Tuscaloosa, Alabama) .

The 1840 Census, still in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, lists Frances Bennett[2]

  • 2 boys between 5 and 10
  • 1 boy between 10 and 15
  • 1 man between 30 and 40
  • 2 girls age 10-15
  • 1 girl age 15-20
  • 1 woman age 30-40

In the 1850 Census[3], in Franklin, Alabama, a Francis Bennet is listed. Using the date and state born information, this is the only Francis Bennet listed born in South Carolina between 1800 and 1810, which leads me to believe that the 1830 and 1840 census information are the same person. However, this also lists children as a birth state of South Carolina, which wouldn't match the 1830/40 Census records.

This Census has:

  • Francis, 48
  • Elizabeth Bennett, 49
  • Polly Ann, 23
  • Easter, 24
  • Francis, 18
  • Isaac, 16
  • Elizabeth, 15
  • Jackson, 13
  • Joseph, 12.

The 1860 Census, in Franklin, Alabama [4], Francis, age 57, is listed with his wife Elizabeth, 58, and younger children Mary A (30), Geo W (6), and Mary A. Martin (5), along with Amos T. Richardson, 59 (born Kentucky). Is this Mary A the same as Polly Ann with one of them having an incorrect age? Is Geo W and Mary Martin the children of Mary or someone else?

I have not found an 1870 Census.

There is a marriage citation, for F. Bennett and Nancy Ray, on 9 Apr 1877, in Itawamba, Mississippi[5]. This seems odd, except in the 1880 Census, in Itawamba, Mississippi, there is a Frank Bennett, age 76, married to Nancy Bennett, age 40. [6]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Francis by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Francis:
