hello Acadians,

Is this perhaps the Geneviève Benoist named in this Biographi.ca bio? Marriage in 1753 on Île-Royale in Louisbourg. Working on the Duplais family, Claude Duplais dit Sylvain would be her father-in-law if she is the girl.

Salut Québec!

She is not the same girl. She was the daughter of Pierre Benoit from France and Anne Jacau. Marriage record here p. 4-5 Here is her profile and 16 children in Marcel Walter Landry’s website. Subscription needed but it is free. Very well researched website but no sources added except for the Landry profiles.

thanks Gisèle, have added the marriage link on Claude's bio, not sure if Acadian project wants to adopt him, since he died on Île Royale and has descent in the area.

Not sure about Claude because his parents weren’t Acadian, they did not marry in Acadia, and he was born in Canada, Nouvelle-France. Geneviève however is Acadian and her children will be also. I can create her profile, her children’s and her parents’ unless you prefer to do it?

I don't have the sources you do for the area, Claude already exists so can be linked to his son, who is likely born in Acadie in any case, being the 5th son. Do you know who would have data on Plaisance (Newfoundland)? Short-lived colony that one.

Danielle, you can find some censuses here under Newfoundland and Labrador : https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/Finding-Aid-300.aspx#i

You could also contact Brad Foley who created this page. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Newfoundland_and_Labrador

I will create Geneviève and Jean-Baptiste's profiles.

hmm, interesting, I see the name Dacarette on the 1711 census, pg 75, 20 fishermen hibernating in his residence, mentionned in the biographi.ca above. Page 45 lists a Jean Louis de Gonillon, with one daughter, 1698 census in the BAC-LAC link, now this is getting very interesting. Find Louis de Gonillon dit St-Louis on 1711 census pg 82 with wife and 2 daughters noted. Claude Duplais married Catherine de Gonillon per the data we have.
