Maternal relationship is confirmed through Mitochondrial DNA test results on mitoYDNA.org. Rita (Cavanaugh) Carpenter, mitoYDNA kit # T17699, and half her 10th cousin, M. Castonguay, mitoYDNA kit # T16972, (compare kits), have an HVR1, HVR2, CR match with a minor mismatch in the Coding Region, thereby confirming their direct maternal lines back to their most-recent common ancestor who is Madeleine Brun, the 9x great grandmother of both Rita (Cavanaugh) Carpenter and M. Castonguay.
