Death notice

"BENNETT - In Wakefield, Sept. 12, Samuel Bennett. Funeral from residence of his son, George Bennett, 140 Salem st [sic], Thursday, Sept. 15, at 8 o'clock. Requiem high mass in St. Joseph's Church at 9 o'clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend" [1] Samuel was mentioned on a memorial in Saint Patricks Cemetery, Stoneham, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States with a death date of 12 Sep 1927.[2]

Obituary

"Funeral services for Samuel Bennett, for many years foreman in charge of road construction work of the Highway Department, were conducted this morning in St. Joseph's Church at 10 o'clock. A solemn requiem high mass was celebrated with Rev. John F. Meheran as celebrant, Rev. Hugh Smith , Deacon; and Rev. John B. Moore, sub-deacon.

There was a handsome display of floral tributes and a delegation of the Highway Department employees with their former superintendant William R. Thompson, now of Belmont, attended. The bearers were John White, Jerimiah Doucette, Edmund Muse, Maurice Welch, John Shannahan, and Joseph Alvani. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Stoneham, in charge of Undertaker William H. Butler.

Mr. Bennett was born in Canada and was one of the most highly respected and efficient men ever employed by the Town Highway Department.

He is survived by two daughters Mrs. LeBlanc and Mrs. Lester Muse of Wakefield, and four sons, George A. Bennett and Elmer F. Bennett of Wakefield, and Peter Bennett and Lester Bennett of Lynn."[3]

He's known as Samuel Bennett in Wakefield records, the 1890 Census and on his daughter, Louise's, Nova Scotia Death Certificate.

He's listed as Lester Benoit of St. Jacques, Québec, in George Brown's "Yarmouth, Nova Scotia: A Sequel to Campbell's History."
