Speaking on my own behalf, autobiography can be an intimidating challenge.
I had a happy childhood in New Canaan, Connecticut, where my father taught at the New Canaan Country School. My three siblings and I all attended the school; I graduated in 1966 and then attended Pomfret School (1966-1970) and then Bowdoin College (1970-1974) with one year on exchange to Wheaton College (1971-1972).
Between 1959 and 1974 I was a camper and then counselor at Camp Agawam in Raymond, Maine, a very significant component of my life.
After working at L. L. Bean in Freeport, Maine I went to Edinburgh, Scotland (1975) and eventually earned an M.Litt. in Scottish history.
In 1976 I returned to the US to marry Dianne McElhiney. After finishing my degree we returned to the US and both became teachers at Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Massachusetts (1978-1986). Both Patrick and Daniel were born while we worked there; Mollie was born when we lived in Greenfield, where I worked as a photographer.
My first marriage ended in 1989. I moved to South Deerfield in 1990 and became a teacher at The Bement School in Deerfield, where I lived as a dorm parent from 1990 to 1996. I married Pam Brewster Porter in 1996 and continued to work at Bement until my retirement in 2017.

I am checking in on behalf of the 1776 Project to announce the new project membership requirements and to verify that you are still interested in being a member of the project. All project members are being asked to join one of the project teams and also to make at least one project contribution every 6 months. We are also asking all project members to join the project's Google Group for project communications.
If you are interested in remaining with the Project, please reply to this comment or send me a message, request to join the Google Group, and let us know what team you would like to participate on.
We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions, please ask. We would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
SJ - 1776 Project Leader
Wish you a Happy New Year. May 2018 bring you all you need to be happy.
Congratulation for adding your contributions in December. Whatever the quantity of your contributions, they all count. As we always say "Quality is better than quantity" to make a great family tree.
Thank you for being a Wikitreer,
Guy Constantineau - Wikitree leader
Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz! I see you joined the New Netherland Project, that is great.
Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other projects you might be interested in.

I found no profile for an Anonymous Benson! Have you created the profile? If so could you send me the URL/web address or ID for the profile? If you have not created the profile, have no info that the person existed then I would say not to create the profile for an Anonymous Benson until you have researched it and have sources that he did exist.
Thank you, David ~ Wikitree Mentor
just a word (late) to congratulate you on the contributions you made during the month of November. Whatever the quantity, they are all important.
Your work is appreciated.
Thanks
Guy Constantineau
This is just a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far? Any questions? Any issues?
Feel free to contact me via my profile page. I am happy to help!
Youve been here about a week now so I thought Id check in with you to see how its going. Is the How-Tos helping?
Give me a shout if you have any questions.
Susie - WikiMessenger :-)
Welcome to the New Netherland Settlers Project. Please visit our FAQ and feel free to ask any questions you may have. If you're looking for your ancestors that might already be on Wikitree, check out our Immigrants and Progenitors page, though it is not quite complete and does not reflect all of the profiles that already exist. Lastly, here's a quick guide to sources that might help you in your search.
Cheers! Carrie
Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can start adding your family. Let me know if you have any questions.
Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour for new members at New Member How-To. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.
Great to have you on board, enjoy, and good luck growing your branches.
Ludwig :)
