Jonathan Benson was the son of John Benson and Elizabeth (Washburn) Benson of Bridgewater, Massachusetts. No record of his birth has been found. However, his gravestone says that he died on December 16, 1788 in the 71st year of his age, which means he was born in 1717 or possibly late December 1716.
Jonathan married Martha Snell in Bridgewater on November 7, 1740, in a ceremony performed by the Reverend John Shaw.
