Biography

Birth

Elizabeth Benson was born on 6 January 1660 in West Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of John Benson III (1635-1710) and Elizabeth Marsh Benson (1638-1669).

Marriage

Elizabeth married Walter Phelps (1635-1719)[1]who was the son of Walter Phelps (1614-1640) and Rebecca Phelps.

Immigration

Walter Phelps arrived in Maryland, USA in 1680. He was 45 years old at the time. Gust Skordas in his Early Settlers of Maryland recorded thirteen Phelps persons including a Walter Phelps, his wife, Elizabeth, his mother, Rebecca, and three others as emigrating from England to America settling in the area of "Providence" in 1680. Providence later became Anne Arundel County.

Children

Walter and Elizabeth had 8 known children: Walter Phelps (1680-1780), William Phelps (1682-1748), John Phelps (1684-1725), Elizabeth Phelps (1693-1703), George Phelps (1694-), Benjamin Phelps (1695-1698), Joseph Phelps (1698-1698)and Charles Phelps (1699-1772). In that same year, their fist child was born in 17 Jun 1680 in Anne Arundel, Maryland, United States.

Death

Elizabeth died in 1706 in Birdsville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA. She was 46 years old.

Her parents are wrong, how could she be born in England when both parents were in New England by 1638? I think this Elizabeth Benson belongs to the unknow Southern Benson family and not the Benson family from 1638. I am John Benson Jr. 8x great-granddaughter and have researched this family for years. Please remove her parents and change to unknown. Thanks
