James was born in 1894. He is the son of William Benson and Catherine Unk.
According to the 1920 Census, James was a flagman on the railroad, so he must have started quite young as he was only 17 at the time of the census. His father was a station agent on the railroad as well. James is believed to be buried at Palms Woodlawn cemetery in Naranja, FL., where his brother and nephews are also buried. The Palms Woodlawn cemetery has a record of a James A. Benson buried in this plot:
Buried 9 Aug 1926
Section C, Lot 157E, Grave 1NE
GPS Coordinates: 25° 31’ 1” N 80° 26’ 5” W
The grave has no marker, however, and I've been unable to confirm that this is the James A. Benson that was John Henry Benson's brother. However, circumstantial evidence makes this likely.
