Thomas William Benson was born on 10th January 1913 in Leichhardt, New South Wales, Australia. He was the firstborn child of William Joseph Benson and Alice Amelia Rusfeldt. [1]
Thomas married Gwendoline Arthur in 1939 in Marrickville, New South Wales. [2]
On 16th March 1942 Thomas enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) for military service during the Second World War. [3] He was a member of No. 10 Squadron, a maritime patrol unit that conducted anti-submarine operations and patrols from bases in the United Kingdom. [4] The war over, he was discharged on 22nd January 1946. [3] For his war service, Thomas was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
Aged 53 years, Thomas passed away in 1968 in Newtown, New South Wales. [5] He was survived by Gwendoline, who passed in 1981.
