There is considerable disagreement between different sources as to the correct year of birth for Elnathan.
Biography
Elnathan Benson was the son of William Benson and Elizabeth Ellis. He was born in Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts in 1760[1]
He married Ruth Hammond c1777 in Rochester. Their children included:[2]
Benjamin Hammond, born July 4, 1799 in Pompey, New York.
Stutson, born February 11, 1811 in Fabius, New York. He was living in 1836 and died unmarried.
A Revolutionary soldier, Elnathan is listed in Willett's Regimet of Levies, 1781-1783.[3]He was part of the 14th Regiment stationed in Albany, New York.[4]
According to the "The Descendants of Cornet Robert Stetson" publication, Elnathan parted from his wife and in 1811, moved to the western part of the state. Ruth lived with their son, Benjamin, in Niagara County where she died.
