Hester Benson, the daughter of James Benson and Elizabeth Clark, was born in Union County, South Carolina 8 April 1804. 19,20 She was later married to a man named Thomas Dunn at Xenia in Greene County, Ohio on 19 March 1829. 17 Thomas, who was a native of Virginia, was calculated from his age at the time of his death to have been born on 14 March 1806. 84

Although Hester and Thomas remained in Greene County for several years after their marriage, by 1840, however, they had moved to Warren County, Indiana. 60 Hester died in Warren County on 27 June 1844. 19,20 She was subsequently buried in the Union Cemetery at Pine Village in Warren County, Indiana. After Hester passed away, Thomas married in Warren County, Indiana for a second time to a woman named Cynthia Berry on 1 May 1845. 70 Shortly thereafter, Thomas and Cynthia moved to Wisconsin, where they are shown on both the 1850 and 1860 federal censuses residing on a farm at Monroe in Green County. 30,85 In addition to five of the children Thomas had from his first marriage to Hester, seven younger children from his second marriage to Cynthia Berry were also listed. These were: Isaac M., Hester A., and Martin L., Sylvester S., Franklin B., Margaret M., and Baldwin S. Dunn 30,85

Sometime prior to 1870, however, Thomas and Cynthia had moved to Iowa where they were found residing on a farm at Van Meter in Dallas County, Iowa. 86 Thomas died at Van Meter in Dallas County, Iowa on 17 February 1885, and was subsequently buried in the Thornton Cemetery at Van Meter, Iowa. 84

First wife of Thomas Baldwin Dunn. Their children: John Raper, Elizabeth M (died young), Eliza J, Emeline Rebecca, James A (died young), William C, Charles Wesley.
