Biography

Arthur Charles Benson

He was born 24 Apr 1862, the son of Edward Benson and Minnie Sidgwick. [1] [2]
He attended Eton and then King's college, Cambridge from 1881. He later returned to Cambridge, becoming a fellow of Magdalen college (1904 - 15) and then master (1915 - 25). [3]
He died 17 Jun 1925 at the Master's Lodge at Magdalene and was buried at St Giles's Cemetery in Cambridge. [4] [5]

Kept a voluminous Diary, which he left to the College (a selection from it, edited by P. Lubbock was published in 1926). Author, The Upton Letters; From a College Window; The Altar Fire; The Gate of Death; Collected poems; The Reed of Pan; Life of E. W. Benson; Leaves of the Tree; Memories and Friends, etc. A generous benefactor to Magdalene College. Died unmarried June 16, 1925, aged 63, at the Lodge. Brother of Edward F. (1887) and Robert H.
