Biography

Joseph was born about 184. Joseph, son of Samuel Bensted and Harriet Bensted, was baptised on 11 July 1841 in Horsleydown, Surrey, England[1].

Joseph (21) married Henrietta Gruber (19) (born about 1843 in Deggendorf, Bavaria, Germany) on July 14, 1863 in Queensland, Australia[2].

Marriage Notice

At Gayndah, on the 14th inst., by the Rev. R. Wilson, Joseph Bensted, youngest son of Samuel Bensted, Esq., of Surrey, London, to Henrietta Gruber, Gayndah, Queensland.[3]

Mr. Joseph Bensted, formerly of Yengarie, was appointed poundkeeper at South Bundaberg on Fri 1 Aug 1884[4][5].

He passed away on 20 July 1887 in Bundaberg, Queensland. He was buried on 21 July 1887 at Bundaberg General Cemetery[6]. Joseph was buried in Bundaberg, Bundaberg Region, Queensland, Australia.[7]

GAYNDAH MEMS.

[from our own correspondent ] On Monday, the 20th [April 1875], Mr. Joseph Bensted arrived from Cania diggings with the Government safe. He had a job when there to find it, as it. was carried a long way from where it was housed by the rapid torrent of water in the gully, on which the house stood. He speaks of that part of the country as being in a fearful state from the effects of the late floods.[8]
