Nicholas was born about 1756 in Pedro Plains, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, the son of John Bent, a white blacksmith from Massachusetts, and Ann Agnes Rochester, a free woman of color from Clarendon. He married and had children with Sarah Powell, born 1771.
Nicholas was 1/8 Black, if the story about his father being from Massachusetts is correct. Some claim that his father was of mixed-race himself, and that he was not the first Bent of St. Elizabeth.

I believe that the two Nicholas’ are the actually the same people. The birthdates on WikiTree don’t match up, but it seems to me that Nicholas (b. 1780) birthdate was just an estimate. Also, they married the same Sarah Powell. I have found Nicholas’ baptism record which puts his birth around 1756. He had children later in life.
