John Caleb Bentley was born on March 31, 1852 to Richard Bentley and Edith D. Needles.^[1]

The 1860 census of 5th District, Montgomery, Maryland, United States again lists John Bentley living with Richard T and Edith Bently.^[2]

Research Notes

The 1910 census establishes John was born around 1852 in Maryland. The 1860 and 1870 census shows an 8 and 18 year old John living in the household of Richard T Bentley.

John's father was originally listed as Edward Bentley. No sources have been found to support Edward as John's father. All sources found to date support Richard T and Edith as John's parents.

However, it appears from the 1870 census Richard T Bentley and Edith Bentley were his parents and Edward was his brother not his father.
