Research Notes

Two James profile seem to have very similar information

  1. James Martin Bentley (Born 1789 in Iradell County, , North Carolina) is married to Sarah Unknow Bentley and Elizabeth (Laws) Bentley.
  2. James (1796)is married to a different Elizabeth (Laws) Bentley

In the source for James marriage to Elizabeth Laws, there is another entry for a John Bentley marring Polly Laws on Jan 31, 182_. In Elizabeth's entry there is the notation "William Laws, bm." Figuring out who John is, might help clarify if these are two different people.

Where was Jame born?

A section of the Bentley Name Study has been established to try to untangle some of the Bentley lines in the generation before James. As can be seen there, the name James is very popular which makes this line confusing. Once the generation before James is cleared up, it might be easier to find his parents. The section of the Study can be found here. Hope this helps.
