In the source for James marriage to Elizabeth Laws, there is another entry for a John Bentley marring Polly Laws on Jan 31, 182_. In Elizabeth's entry there is the notation "William Laws, bm." Figuring out who John is, might help clarify if these are two different people.
Where was Jame born?
A section of the Bentley Name Study has been established to try to untangle some of the Bentley lines in the generation before James.
