Jane was born in 1926 in Tampa, Florida. Her father Frank Bentley was a dry goods merchant, but lost his business during the 1929 stock market crash. The family moved to Washington, DC, where Frank went to work for the Works Progress Administration.
Jane married Harry Charles in 1946. [1]. The couple had 4 children and lived in the US, France, and Japan due to Harry's post-WWII job as a JAG in the Air Force.
Harry and Jane retired to Myrtle Beach in 1974. Jane was an accomplished oil painter and became a patron of the arts in Myrtle Beach. They were instrumental in the founding of Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach. [2]
