Richard is mentioned in the Maryland State Archives biography for his father Caleb Bentley. The biography notes that at the time of his father's death, on July 13, 1851, "Bentley had willed the majority of his real and personal estate to his son Richard T. Bentley, leaving only between $2,000 and $5,000 per person to his wife Henrietta, his two daughters Mary and Sarah, his daughter-in-law Edith, and his grandson Louis Marshall Warfield. [1]
"Edith D Needles daughter of John and Eliza Matthews Needles was married to Richard T Bently son of Caleb and Henrietta Bentley of Sandy Springs The said marriage took place in Friends meeting house on Lombard Street Baltimore 6 mo 22d 1842, Children:[2]

On December 18, 1857 Richard and his wife Edith, "were assembled at the breakfast-table of John Needles" and listed with the children of John and his wife Mary Needles.[3]
The 1860 census of 5th District, Montgomery, Maryland, United States again lists John Bentley living with Richard T and Edith Bently.[4]
