Descendant of Samuel Gorton (1593–1677) Thomas was the third great-grandson of the famous Puritan Great Migration pioneer leader of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, Samuel Gorton, who was 5th President of Providence and Warwick. He arrived in Boston in March 1637 with his wife, Mary Maplet, and several children.

Descendant of PGM Migrant Edmund Freeman Jr. (1596 - 1682)Thomas was the fourth great-grandson of the famous Puritan Great Migration pioneer leader Edmund Freeman, a founder of Sandwich, Massachusetts and Assistant Governor of Plymouth Colony under Governor William Bradford. On October 8, 1635 he arrived at Boston as "Edward" Freeman, 34, on Captain Hackwell's ship, The Abigail, along with his second wife Elizabeth Freeman, 35; Edmond Freeman, 15; John Freeman, 8; Elizabeth Freeman, 12; and Alice Freeman 17.
Descendant of PGM Migrant William Freeborn (1594 - 1670) Thomas was the fourth great-granddaughter of the famous Puritan Great Migration pioneer leader William Freeborn, a founding settler of Portsmouth on Aquidneck Island (Rhode Island), who had signed the Portsmouth Compact with 22 other men in Boston. He arrived in 1634 with his probable second wife Mary Wilson and infant daughter Sarah (Freeborn) Browning, settling in Roxbury in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
