Biography

Abraham was baptised at Longnor, Staffordshire, on 6 November 1803, the son of Joseph Berisford and Hannah Knowles "Baptd. Abraham son of Joseph Barisford, Longnor".^[1]

He married Mary Clulow at Prestbury near Macclesfield on 23 May 1831. Marriage by licence, both of Macclesfield, bachelor and spinster, his occupation, painter. Both signed, witnesses were William Clulow and Sarah Goodwin.^[2][3]

On 13 December 1842 Abraham appeared as executor to swear an oath for his father's will. He is described as "Abraham Beresford of Macclesfield in the County of Chester, painter and gilder" and his father as Joseph Beresford of Longnor, widower, schoolmaster, died 11 November 1842.^[4]

By 1861 Mary had died and Abraham had returned to Longnor, where he was living with his children Sarah Ann, Mary Clulow, and Abraham Knowles Beresford.^[5] He died in 1864 and was buried at Longnor on 11 November 1864.^[6]
